$2.4m for new screen productions and the return of TV favourites

Media Releases  3 Dec 2015

The Victorian Government today announced Film Victoria funding for 15 television, film and online screen productions – including season six of Australia’s iconic, award-winning drama Offspring.

The projects – which share in $2.43 million of production investment funding – are expected to generate more than 2,740 job opportunities for the local screen sector and inject more than $43 million into the Victorian economy.

Award-winning series Nowhere Boys, children’s sketch comedy You’re Skitting Me, and House Husbands will also return to our screens in 2016 – alongside The Wrong Girl, a new drama from House Husbands’ producers Playmaker Media, based on the best-selling book by Zoe Foster Blake.

Two new online productions include Dating Tales, a documentary series featuring a cast of flamboyant puppets that re-enact true online dating stories from around Australia, and Trip for Biscuits, a children’s comedy.

Emo (The Musical) makes its transition from an acclaimed short film to a feature, following a satirical high school musical story of teenage angst, love and turf war.

Dance Academy The Comeback is a feature length film based on the award-winning series that follows Tara Webster’s comeback journey to ballet following a crippling injury.

Documentaries include:

  • Gurrumul Elcho Dreaming, a feature about renowned Indigenous musician Geoffrey Gurrumul Yunupingu
  • Digilante, on the damage caused by social media shaming
  • Date My Race, which explores the role race plays in the world of dating
  • Motorkite Dreaming which follows young Aussie adventurers and their mission to fly microlight aircrafts across Australia
  • Seidler – Brutal or Beautiful? – the story of internationally acclaimed Australian architect Harry Seidler
