A SPORTING GOOD TIME WITH A NEW VICTORIAN TV SERIES

Media Releases  25 Nov 2016

The 2016 footy season may be over but Etihad Stadium is still seeing plenty of on-field action with cameras rolling on the new Australian television series The Warriors.

Minister for Creative Industries Martin Foley joined the star-studded cast today including Lisa McCune, Vince Colosimo and John Howard along with new Indigenous talents, Nelson Baker and Gordan Churchill in his first on screen role.

The eight-part series - produced by Robert Connolly from Arenamedia along with John Harvey and Liz Kearney - explores the life of new Australian rules football recruits as they navigate the pressures and demands of professional football both on and off the field.

With the production bringing new Indigenous actors to the screen, behind the scenes Film Victoria’s Professional Attachment Scheme has supported seven placement opportunities aimed at developing the next generation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander screen professionals.

Series co-creator and writer Tony Briggs was supported to undertake a director’s placement, as was writer Tracey Rigney, whilst five other practitioners have been gaining skills in the disciplines of camera, makeup and sound post production.

The project received investment support through Film Victoria’s Assigned Production Investment program.

Shooting wraps in Victoria this week, before heading to Western Australia to film in Warmun in the Kimberley region.

The Warriors will air on ABC in 2017.
