Applications open for 2018 PostScript & Direct at MIFF

Media Releases  16 May 2018

Film Victoria is seeking Expressions of Interest from Victorian screenwriters or writer/directors to join the 2018 37ºSouth PostScript & Direct event.

This special initiative between Film Victoria and the Melbourne International Film Festival (MIFF) will sponsor up to 10 early to mid-career Victorian practitioners to pitch their feature film projects to producers from Australia and New Zealand.

The 2018 PostScript & Direct will take place on Sunday 5 August at the Forum Theatre in Melbourne. Selected participants meet with key decision makers in a speed dating’ style event, moving around the room from one 15-minute pitch session to the next.

Following individual meetings, a networking event will be held for writers to meet with producers in a more informal setting.

PostScript & Direct is part of the industry programs unit, MIFF 37ºSouth Market. It brings the global film financing marketplace to Melbourne in the opening days of the Festival and enables Australian producers with market-ready feature-length projects to meet with key international film co-financiers in Melbourne.

Minister for Creative Industries, Martin Foley said: “Bringing an idea to the screen can be a long process. That’s why the Victorian Government is proud to support 37 South, which enables writers and directors to make connections that will help get their projects moving and advance their careers. From Oddball to Downriver and EMO the Musical, there have been some great 37 South success stories and I look forward to seeing more projects emerge out of the market this year.”

Film Victoria CEO Caroline Pitcher said “We’re on the lookout for our next wave of talented Victorian writers with unique ideas and compelling scripts. PostScript & Direct provides all important face time between writers and producers who can elevate a script to the next level.”

Mark Woods, MIFF 37ºSouth Market & Accelerator Director said: "With producers attending from all over Australia and New Zealand, PostScript&Direct is a unique opportunity for Victorian screenwriters. It provides the perfect platform for them to pitch, network and potentially find the right producer to bring their hard grafted work to life."

The deadline for applications is 10am on 12 June. Eligibility criteria and application forms are available through our Funding Development page.
