Call out to Victorian writers for MIFF pitching event

Media Releases  26 Apr 2016

Film Victoria is seeking Expressions of Interest from Victorian screenwriters to join the 2016
37ºSouth: PostScript & Direct event.

Through this initiative between Film Victoria and the Melbourne International Film Festival (MIFF) 37ºSouth
Market will sponsor up to 10 early to mid-career Victorian writers to pitch their feature film projects to
producers from Australia and New Zealand.

Now in its ninth year, 37ºSouth: PostScript & Direct will take place on Sunday 31 July at the Forum Theatre in
Melbourne. Last year, Film Victoria sponsored eight writers to attend the event and one of those writers had
their screenplay optioned for further development. Other writers had requests for samples requested or were
able to establish mentorships with experienced producers.

The event runs in a ‘speed dating’ style with selected participants moving around the room from one 15-
minute pitch session to the next. Following the pitch meetings, writers will have the opportunity to network with
producers and other participants in a relaxed setting.

The deadline for applications is Friday 13 May. Eligibility criteria and application forms are available on our skills development page.

Jenni Tosi, CEO, Film Victoria

“PostScript & Direct allows Victorian screenwriters to pitch their projects to producers face to face and receive
immediate feedback, with the potential to have their projects optioned for further development and ultimately
find success in being produced.”

“It’s terrific to once again join forces with MIFF 37ºSouth Market to provide writers access to this valuable
event.”

Mark Woods, MIFF 37ºSouth Market & Accelerator Director

"Perfecting a great script is half the battle; the other half is finding the right producer to advance it towards
production - and 37ºSouth PostScript&Direct is here to help."

"With producers from all over Australia/NZ in Melbourne for the 10th edition of MIFF 37ºSouth Market,
Victorian screenwriters will be well positioned to pitch and network their way through the first Sunday afternoon
of MIFF!"
