VICTORIA STARS AT AUSTRALIAN TV’S NIGHT OF NIGHTS

Film Victoria congratulates the teams behind the exceptional array of Australian television productions on show at the 2017 TV Week Logie Awards.

Celebrating its 59th year, the star-studded event was held at the Crown Palladium in Melbourne and drew over one million viewers from around the country. Victorian talent, businesses and productions dominated the awards, achieving wins in 16 of the 28 categories, many of which were supported by Film Victoria. 

Samuel Johnson took home the Gold and Silver Logies in recognition of his outstanding performance as Molly Meldrum in Molly (Mushroom Pictures). The two-part miniseries also won Best Drama Program. 

Conviction (DD & B Productions) which follows the homicide investigation behind the murder of Jill Meagher’s won Most Outstanding Factual or Documentary Program.

Josh Thomas’ television comedy series Please Like Me (Pigeon Fancier Productions) was awarded Most Outstanding Comedy while Debra Lawrance received the award for Most Outstanding Supporting Actress for her superb performance in the series.

The Little Lunch special The Nightmare Before Graduation from Gristmill creators Robyn Butler and Wayne Hope took home the award for Most Outstanding Children’s Program.

Melbourne dominated the light entertainment categories with The Block winning Best Reality Program while The Project won Best News Panel Or Current Affairs Program. The show’s popular host Waleed Aly took home the Silver Logie for Best Presenter. Have You Been Paying Attention? won both awards in the Entertainment category. Melbourne based production house WTFN received the Best Lifestyle Program award for The Living Room.

Elias Anton received the Most Outstanding Newcomer award for his role for his leading role in the Matchbox Pictures mini series Barracuda. Rob Collins won Best New Talent and Jessica Marais received Best Actress, for their work in The Wrong Girl which is shot in Melbourne. 

Minister for Creative Industries, Martin Foley said: “Victoria the creative state was leading the way once again at the 2017 Logies with local talent taking out more than half of the awards. We are proud to have played a role in bringing many of these award-winning productions to the screen and we can expect plenty more local productions, and great viewing, up ahead.”

Film Victoria CEO, Jenni Tosi said: “It’s a thrill to have so many productions coming out of Victoria being recognised by their industry peers and the general public. It’s a testament to the creativity that exists in our state and we congratulate all the talented individuals who contributed to this success. There can be no doubt Melbourne is the home of Australian television and we want to keep it that way.”
