Fresh off the set from Underbelly

  29 Nov 2017

Uncut, raw, edgy, funny, brutal and unexpected, the landmark TV event Underbelly Files: Chopper promises to be part truth, part spin but full impact.

The two-part mini-series is set to explore the dilemma faced by Read to reconcile his two competing identities – Chopper, the colourful underworld figure, and Mark Brandon Read, the man who craved a quiet life far from the public arena.

Victorian Natalie Cunningham took on a six-week attachment as a camera department trainee through Film Victoria’s Attachment program. The experience gave Natalie a solid insight into a fast paced professional drama production setting where she learned a variety of skills needed to support a large scale camera department.

Reflecting on her experience Natalie said, “As an early career filmmaker coming from a documentary background it was an amazing opportunity to be a part of a drama series production, especially in the camera department where I was able to learn the intricacies of how things work on larger scale shoots. I worked closely with the video split operator to learn how to perform that role as well as assisting the 2nd AC's and all members of the camera department more broadly. The highlight of this experience was definitely the great crew members that shared their experiences and expertise with me and allowed me to develop my skills in a way that has inspired me to continue to pursue further camera department roles in the film industry”.

Underbelly Files: Chopper will be broadcast on Channel Nine in 2018.
