Congratulations to Alistair Baldwin who will take a seat in the writer’s room of ABC’s The Weekly with Charlie Pickering thanks to Film Victoria’s Key Talent Production Placement program.
A VCA graduate with a Bachelor of Screenwriting, Alistair’s work as a critic and commentator has been published in Art + Australia, Archer Magazine and on SBS Comedy. In 2017 he participated in the Victorian Talent Camp workshop – a diversity and inclusion partnership between Film Victoria, AFTRS and Screen Australia.
The eight-week placement commences in late April and will see Alistair developing himself as a writer determined to inject emotion into comedy.
Commenting on his exciting opportunity Alistair said: "I'm ecstatic that Film Victoria and Guesswork Television have helped facilitate my placement on The Weekly with Charlie Pickering. It's a show I've loved watching over the past few years - it really is more than I could have hoped, to get a start as a young TV writer working alongside and learning from such a powerhouse writing team.
“Last year I was a part of the Film Victoria funded development initiative Talent Camp. At the end of the initiative, I pitched a comedy web series satirising disability funding bureaucracy in Australia to a room of legit producers, including Amber Kane from Guesswork. As a TV comedy mega-fan, the content Guesswork have produced in this country is staggering. So I was already beyond chuffed that Film Victoria had introduced us. But a few coffee meetings and phone calls later, Guesswork and Film Victoria had organised a writer placement for me on The Weekly. Comedy writing and satire are the direction I want my career to go, and not only did Film Victoria recognise that in Talent Camp, they set me up with a meaningful, credited placement to help get me there."
