Local Games Practitioner Bound for China

  19 Jun 2019

If you work in games, getting experience in the Chinese market – one of the world’s key games markets – is gold. And this is exactly what Joe’l is about to gain through our Games Business Development placement with Yodo1.

Kicking off later this year, Joe’l will spend four months in Yodo 1’s Beijing office, followed by two months in their newly-established Melbourne office, working alongside their Business Development, Marketing, and Global Publishing teams.

From undertaking market research to learning about the overall structure and interplay of games production, publishing and marketing, the placement will give Joe’l a sound understanding of overall business development, as well as hands-on experience and understanding of the Chinese games market.

On hearing the news, Joe’l said: “I'm so excited that Film Victoria and Yodo1 have given me the opportunity to experience the games industry in both Australia and China, a unique experience which will provide me with hands on skills and knowledge that will no doubt prove invaluable to personal career growth and the success of my indie studio Sky Pirate Studios. I couldn't be more grateful and look forward to tackling this challenge.”

Meghan Betteridge, who is now Marketing Manager at Yodo1’s Melbourne office after completing a Film Victoria placement with the company last year, said: "We're both super excited to have teamed up with Film Victoria for the second year in a row and have Joe'l join us for what we hope will be an eye-opening and memorable adventure.

"Joe'l’s initiative and goals towards raising both his skillset and the success of Sky Pirate Studios, is exciting and we want to help him achieve this. On that note, we can't wait to see what he might teach us along the way, too."
