Applications open for two programs

Events  24 Feb 2017

The information and networking session brought together past recipients with potential applicants as the successes of the 2016 program were celebrated and attendees mingled with their industry counterparts.

2016 WIG recipient Lisy Kane and WILD recipient Gabrielle Oldaker shared their insights about the knowledge they gained through the activities they undertook.

Through the Film Victoria Natalie Miller Fellowship Women in Leadership Development program Gabrielle Oldaker (Marketing Manager at Roadshow Films) undertook a Women Transforming Leadership programme at the Said Business School at Oxford University in October 2016.

'The programme was an awe inspiring experience,' Gabrielle said.

"Directed by some of the best educators in the world and surrounded by 54 incredible women from 18 different countries, it highlighted we all face similar challenges in the work place."

The course helped Gabrielle to analyse her leadership style, and to build on this during the strategy sessions, personal coaching, discussions with other participants, and experiential learning.

“It exposed me to different approaches for overcoming leadership challenges and provided me with a stronger sense of how to use the diversity of skills and experiences within my team to better solve strategic challenges.”

“Most importantly I learnt the need to pay it forward and support others in their careers and I'm truly grateful to Film Victoria and the Natalie Miller Fellowship for the opportunity."

Lisy Kane (League of Geeks) received a Women in Games Fellowship which will see her travel and shadow talented producers at different studios throughout the world including Media Molecule, Obsidian and Ubisoft.

"The Women in Games Fellowship is an incredibly exciting opportunity for me to be able to learn a lot and level up in 2017," Lisy said.

"My biggest tip would be persistence - some of the placements I've been accepted into have taken over eight months of relationship building and logistics. Also don't be worried about hassling folk as they're just as busy as you are and sometimes need a reminder!"

Applications for the Women in Games Fellowship program and the Film Victoria-Natalie Miller Fellowship Women in Leadership Development initiative are now open.
