NEW FUNDING CHAMPIONS SKILLED WOMEN IN SCREEN

Congratulations to the 15 recipients funded through Film Victoria’s Women’s Professional and Leadership Development Program to undertake a range of tailored opportunities to diversify their capabilities and advance their careers in the sector.

Recipients hail from a diverse range of disciplines with activities spanning international placements and formal training to mentorships and job shadowing. They will be supported across the program’s two strands which include a professional development stream for women to position themselves for future decision making roles; and a leadership development stream (run in partnership with the Natalie Miller Fellowship) for women looking to secure leadership roles within the Australian screen industry.

Professional Stream recipients

This stream provides opportunities for women to undertake relevant professional development opportunities which will position them for future senior management, leadership and/or decision making roles within the Australian screen industry.

As a content producer Bree manages social media ad campaigns, marketing insights, audience engagement activities, and communications and branding across projects. She has major production experience in television, corporate and online media production, as well as significant national and international event experience.

For the past 10 years Samantha has worked in a range of positions within local feature film and TV production, script development and a stint with federal funding agency Screen Australia.

Emma is a principal and commercial director at Princess Pictures. She has been working in the industry for 15 years as a lawyer and executive producer. Emma works across Princess’s entire slate of projects and has driven the company to explore new finance sources and strategies for improved sustainability. She specialises in complex financing and distribution arrangements involving significant international partners. 

With 18 years dedicated experience in the film and television industry, Alicia is a specialist publicity consultant working across all facets of the industry from production to exhibition, with a range of local and international clients.

A Producer, Development Producer and Associate Producer, Pennie works across drama and comedy for local and international production companies.

Corrie is an award-winning filmmaker whose diverse body of work has screened extensively at academy-accredited film festivals around the world, and is an alumni of Berlinale Talents. She recently directed Homecoming Queens for SBS.

Film industry publicist Cathy has more than 20 years experience leading campaigns for the Australian Screen Industry, working with top filmmakers, distributors, festivals and stars on all aspects of film and television industry publicity, including unit to release/on-air, publicity tours, red carpets, awards, film festivals and events, media training and strategic planning.

An Operations and Marketing Manager with eight years management experience, and a combined 12 years of experience in the exhibition industry, Bridgette’s working life has been nurtured inside cinema complexes - from learning the ropes behind the box office at Reading Cinemas for four years, to Duty Manager at Hoyts for another four, before moving up through Assistant Manager, General Manager, and Area Manager Sydney at Dendy Cinemas. She is currently Marketing Manager at the Classic Lido Cameo Cinemas.

Sally has several years of experience working across documentary film and television in Australia and the UK, and comedy sketch television programs across roles as production manager, coordinator, script coordinator and research. She has produced a number of narrative short films and music videos that have screened at several film festivals both domestically and internationally.

Margarita is a Ukrainian born filmmaker, raised in New Zealand and now based in Melbourne. She has worked as a producer, director and editor on numerous short films, documentaries and promotional content where she managed and led small creative teams. She is the current president of the Victorian chapter of Women in Film and Television (WIFT).

Lin Tam has vast experience in producing, marketing and developing entertainment content across various media platforms. She has also been utilizing her technical, creative, and storytelling skills in augmented reality.

Liz Kearney is a producer at Arenamedia, working on many of their recent productions. Along with Robert and Maggie Miles, Liz produced the Australian film Paper Planes. The film was released by Village Roadshow and grossed almost $10M at the Australian box office.

Leadership Stream recipients (run in partnership with the Natalie Miller Fellowship)

This stream aims to increase the skills of women seeking to secure leadership and decision making roles in businesses and organisations within the Australian screen industry.

Andrea is an experienced creative producer, executive producer and story producer.  A principal in leading production company Princess Pictures, Andrea has produced, executive produced and story produced many hours of drama, comedy and documentary content over her two decades in the industry. Andrea has mentored several people at various stages of their writing and producing careers.

Currently General Manager of Theatrical at Madman Entertainment, Nicole has executed release strategies and managed budgets for over 120 Madman titles, collectively grossing over $44 million. Her experience lies in operational and sales based roles in the independent film distribution field.

Andrea has worked as a film producer, writer and development executive in Australia, Hollywood and South Africa. Her film The Jammed broke box office records, with a screen average of $48,000 and a 20-week theatrical run on 42 screens. It won a sweep of awards including Best Script, Best Music and Best Film at the 2007 INSIDE FILM Awards, as well as seven AFI Award nominations, and inspired action against Human Trafficking.
