Victoria to host Screen Forever 2018

Events / Film & TV  9 Nov 2018

Championing the talent, passion and achievements of the Australian screen sector and providing a vital forum for discussion and debate on the issues and challenges that affect all screen businesses, Screen Forever is a key event on the calendar and one that Film Victoria is proud to be the principal partner of.

With another impressive line-up of international key note speakers, appearances from companies at the forefront of their game, and a jam-packed program, this year is set to be another inspiring event and a key opportunity to connect with local and international industry professionals.

Make sure you check out the emerging producers in Screen Forever’s Ones to Watch, sign up to SPA Connect for the opportunity to meet producers looking for co-venture or co-production opportunities, and – of course – browse the program for the full list of activities. If you have children, make the most of the free crèche that will be available to delegates - a first for Screen Forever and a major step forward for parents and carers working in the industry.

Program highlights include:

Bitches, Fierce Femmes and Molls – In Praise of Difficult Screen Women

Featuring Nathan Ross, Sascha Rothchild and Sarah Walker, with Film Victoria CEO Caroline Pitcher moderating, this Film Victoria-sponsored event will look at the way TV is redesigning women, subverting sexual politics and re-writing the patriarchy powerplay, exploring what makes these anti-heroes compulsive viewing.

When: 10.30 -11.30am, Thursday 22 November

Where: Conference Hall 1

International Speaker Program

In an exciting line-up of innovative thinkers and industry leaders at the intersection of entertainment, media and technology, this year’s international speaker program includes award-winning writer and producer Dominic Minghella (Doc Martin, Hamish Macbeth), Emmy and Golden Globe winning executive producer Nathan Ross (Dallas Buyers Club, Sharp Objects, Big Little Lies) and Emmy nominee and co-executive producer and writer Sascha Rothchild (GLOW). Look out for the various events these speakers will be participating in.

Fireside Chat with Netflix Director of Content Acquisitions Lauren Smith and SPA CEO Matthew Deaner

As the global streaming giant continues to build out its original content slate across the world, Lauren Smith is responsible for acquiring content from independent studios and producers. Responsible for bringing Safe, Travelers, Trailer Park Boys, The Letdown and Netflix’ upcoming Australian original, the untitled Chris Lilley Project, Lauren will share her insights into what makes a show sing for a streaming service.
