Applications are open for Talent Camp VIC - a diversity and inclusion initiative for under-represented practitioners wanting to work in the screen industry.
Film Victoria has teamed up with the Australian Film Television & Radio School (AFTRS), Screen Australia and other state screen agencies to roll out the national initiative that aims to provide career enhancement
opportunities for early career creatives and storytellers.
The Victorian Talent Camp will run in October and see up to 12-15 creators participate in a five day workshop that will cover the basics of story development, identifying audiences, distribution and pathways for projects.
Storytellers with fresh ideas and an interest in a screen media career are encouraged to apply. Applicants will have produced work across any creative platform, for example, screen, theatre, spoken word, podcasting,
photography, and YouTube.
Minister for Creative Industries, Martin Foley said: “The Victorian Government is proud to support this initiative as part of our commitment to backing local talent and providing access and opportunities for more Victorians
to bring their diverse stories and perspectives to our screens.
“Victoria is the creative state, and one that values the diversity of our community. It is vital that our creative industries reflect this, both in terms of opportunities for people to develop creative careers and for Victorians
to see themselves reflected on our screens and in our cultural life."
Applications are encouraged from under-represented groups in the screen industry with specific reference to cultural background, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, geographic disadvantage and socioeconomic
status. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander creatives are also strongly encouraged to apply.

careers of the next generation of Australian storytellers through the Talent Camp initiative.

CLEA FROST
A VCA graduate, Clea has worked in Australia and the U.S. as a script editor, screenwriter, development executive and producer. From 2008-13 she was the Executive Director of the Los Angeles-based screenwriting non-profit, The CineStory Foundation. In 2013 Clea returned to Melbourne to become Manager, Script Development at Film Victoria. During her tenure, Clea oversaw the agency's fiction slate as well as delivering a new iteration of the Catapult Concept Lab for early career writers and workshops for the Incubator Feature Script Intensive, a new program which Clea implemented to fast-track feature script development. After leaving Film Victoria, she was head writer on the VR game Earthlight. Clea is currently an assessor for Film Victoria and Screen Tasmania and sits on Film Victoria's EAC. In addition, she is attached to produce a short and feature, both shooting in late 2017.
KATH SHELPER
Kath Shelper is the producer of many celebrated films most noticeably Samson & Delilah, which won the director Warwick Thornton the Camera d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival in 2009. The film took out many other awards around the world. Kath currently produces the ABC sketch comedy series, Black Comedy, which has had two series screen in 2014 and 2016, winning an AACTA Award and nominated twice for a Logie. Her last feature film Ruben Guthrie opened the 2015 Sydney Film Festival.
In the last few years Kath has produced The Darkside, a hybrid documentary-drama with Warwick Thornton (Forum, 2014 Berlinale), ABC TV feature doc Tender by artist Lynette Wallworth (AACTA Award Best TV Doco 2015, 2014 Sydney Film Festival) and two chapters of The Turning feature film (Tim Winton’s short stories project, Berlinale Gala 2013), with Warwick Thornton and actress Mia Wasikowska in her directing debut. Mia and Kath also made another short film for the Madly anthology (Tribeca 2016).
